This evaluation seeks to understand the concept of the Climate Investment Funds’ (CIF) programmatic approach and how it has been applied. The evaluation aims to inform future enhancements to the programmatic approach in CIF recipient countries and identify good practice examples for the benefit of other climate finance mechanisms.

The CIF’s programmatic approach brings systems-level thinking and solutions at scale to help countries meet their climate ambitions and is often cited as one of the CIF’s distinctive features and comparative advantages. It is centered around developing country-led investment plans and thematic programs supported by multi-lateral development bank (MDB) collaboration. The programmatic approach is part of the original design of the CIF and remains its main modality of delivery for all four of CIF’s programs: The Clean Technology Fund (CTF), Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR), Forest Investment Program (FIP), and Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP).

This evaluation seeks to understand the Climate Investment Funds’ (CIF) contribution to transformational change toward low-carbon and climate-resilient development in the areas of mitigation, resilience, and forestry. The evaluation aims to bring about more transformative climate programming by providing findings to improve the design and delivery of existing CIF programs; inform the operation of other climate funds; help design future climate finance initiatives; and aid those engaged in monitoring, evaluation, and learning for climate funds.

This evaluation does not seek to evaluate CIF’s overall performance but rather to understand how, and to what extent, CIF has been able to contribute to transformational change. A theory-based approach is used exploring the mechanisms of how and under what circumstances transformational change takes place and identifying the role that CIF has played in these changes.

These analytical documents provide policy-applied research into skill needs for greener economies. The research is based on 32 country studies worldwide with a primary focus on good practice examples of how national policies for greening economies are complemented by identification of skills needs and efficient skills response strategies. Background studies are available for Barbados, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kyrgyz Republic, Senegal, Mauritius, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Mali, Philippines, Uganda, South Africa, Tajikistan, and the United Arab Emirates. 

This analytical document provides an extensive piece of empirical research and modeling on skills for a greener future, offering new insights into likely occupational skill effects in declining and growing industries by 2030 based on two global quantitative scenarios. Evidence of good practices collected in the surveyed countries demonstrates how skills development can underpin the green transition.

 Lesson Plan consists of a set of teaching tools and a write-up, packaged in the form of a step-by-step guide.

The content in a Lesson Plan describes how a topic in a particular discipline such as Physics, Humanity, Economics or Biology can be taught by using examples, case studies, and exercises related to climate change.

Educators can use these Lesson Plans as supplementary aids or can integrate them with their existing teaching modules.

This Action Plan is part of the WBG 2025 Climate Change Targets that expand the commitments made under the WBG 2016 Climate Change Action Plan and increase the emphasis on adaptation and resilience. Special attention will be given to vulnerable populations, including the poor, those affected by fragility, conflict, and violence, and small island states. At the same time, to reduce the negative impacts of climate change worldwide, the WBG will also encourage countries to deliver on their commitments to reduce emissions.

The Action Plan is structured around three objectives:

-Boost adaptation financing: expanding access to and the effectiveness of additional climate adaptation finance;
-Drive a mainstreamed, whole-of-government programmatic approach: mainstreaming systematic climate risk management at the country and sector levels;
-Develop a new rating system: better tracking and incentivizing global progress on adaptation and resilience.

The UN CC:Learn annual report 2018 includes key activities at global and national levels to advance climate literacy as well as new partnerships and achievements. 

The Climate Adaptation in Rural Development – Assessment Tool (CARD) is a platform to explore the effects of climate change on the yield of major crops. It is intended to support the quantitative integration of climate-related risks in agricultural and rural development investments and strategies, including economic and financial analyses (EFA).

This tool provides data for 17 major crops in nearly all African countries. It is currently available for North Africa, West and Central Africa, and East and Southern Africa. All IFAD regions will be available in the course of 2019. 

This toolkit provides school students with an illustrated encyclopedia about global climate change in an interesting, attractive and entertaining way. It also includes as recommendations to teachers on the use of its resources in the school curriculum.

The Climate Box consists of:

• An illustrated textbook for students with educational materials and a variety of questions and tasks for individuals and groups, as well as guidelines for teachers on the use of the toolkit during lessons for students in different age groups;
• The Climate Quiz – a set of game cards;
• A wall map illustrating the possible effects of climate change on nature and mankind in various parts of the world by the end of the 21st century;
• A poster with tips on how to reduce carbon footprint;
•A disk with all of the toolkit materials.

Through these materials, readers will learn how the Earth’s climate has changed from the earliest geological epochs, what climate changes are happening now, how these changes affect nature and humanity, whether we can adapt to the inevitable impacts, how to prevent the most dangerous consequences of global warming, and what is already being done in different regions of the world.
