Investing to Overcome the Global Impact of Neglected Tropical Diseases: Third WHO Report on Neglected Tropical Diseases

This analytical report presents an investment strategy for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and analyses the specific investment case for prevention, control, elimination and eradication of 12 of the 17 NTDs. Climate change is expected to increase the spread of several vector-borne NTDs, notably dengue, by changes in temperature, rainfall, relative humidity and climate variability. The report suggests that the presence of NTDs will thereby signal an early warning system for climate-sensitive diseases.

Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2015

This analytical report contains revisions to a number of investment figures published in the 2014 UNEP Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment Report. As outlined in the report, newly installed renewable energy capacity in 2014 helped the world produce 9.1% of its electricity compared to 8.5% in 2013. The report also highlights that there are several challenges remainaing, including climate change, policy uncertainty, difficulties in creating policy that keeps pace with technological change and structural issues in the electricity system.

Derisking Renewable Energy Investment – A Framework to Support Policymakers in Selecting Public Instruments to Promote Renewable Energy Investment in Developing Countries

This manual introduces the DREI (Derisking Renewable Energy Investment) framework that identifies the barriers and associated risks holding back private sector investment in renewable energy. The DREI assists policymakers to put in place packages of targeted public interventions to address these risks. Each public intervention acts in one of three ways: either reducing, transferring or compensating for risk. The overall aim of the DREI is to cost-effectively achieve a risk-return profile that catalyses private-sector investment at scale as well as to provide reliable and affordable renewable energy solutions in developing countries.

Adaptation to Climate Risk and Food Security: Evidence from Smallholder Farmers in Ethiopia

This analytical report aims to explore the impact of climate risk on the risk decreasing practices’ adoption and evaluates their impact on household welfare. It shows that as risk increases, the use of risk-reducing inputs increases, such as climate-smart agriculture (CSA) inputs, while the use of modern inputs such as chemical fertilizer decreases. Also, yield-enhancing inputs such as chemical fertilizer and improved seeds are mainly adopted by wealthier households whereas risk-reducing inputs are frequently used by households with a lower level of wealth and limited access to credit.
