This Strategy translates FAO’s mandate into strategic choices and action priorities at global, regional, national and local levels with the central goal of supporting its Member Nations in achieving their commitments to face climate change. Climate change is a top-line corporate priority, thus FAO will focus its work on three fronts: First, to enhance institutional and technical capacities of Member States. Second, to improve integration of food security, agriculture, forestry and fisheries within the international climate agenda. And third, to strengthen internal coordination and delivery of FAO’s work.

Este documento de orientación pone de manifiesto el modo en que el cambio climático afecta cada una de las cuatro dimensiones de la Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional: la disponibilidad, el acceso, la utilización y la estabilidad de los alimentos. Lo anterior,  con el fin de producir antecedentes para profundizar el desarrollo de sinergias entre diferentes áreas de política relevantes para la región. 

This guidance document is based on experiences and lessons learned from FAO member countries and national forest monitoring projects and initiatives, as well as inputs provided at international workshops and technical meetings and by institutional partners and stakeholders. It is designed to support member countries’ efforts to strengthen their national forest monitoring capacities, increasing their transparency and long-term reliability. 

This guidance document provides methodological and organizational guidance to countries interested in taking a systematic approach to education and training for an inclusive green economy. This document draws on the experience of three Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) partner countries; Ghana, Mongolia and South Africa that have conducted learning assessments and developed action plans or strategies. 

This guidance document aims to identify, analyse, and profile institutions providing green economy learning. The document is useful to students, trainers, and institutions that are looking for a reliable training partner with expertise in a specific thematic area or a region. Each learning institution is featured in an individual profile page, including: a brief description of the learning institution, contact details, and key information related to the green economy learning activities (e.g. type of activity, thematic and regional scope).

This activity report focuses on the NAP–Ag Programme, supporting countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to identify and integrate climate change adaptation measures into relevant national planning and budgeting processes. NAP–Ag provides support to countries for accessing climate finance through international mechanisms, such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), bilateral and multilateral funding mechanisms, as well as national financing. 

This guidance document aims at supporting the facilitators of REDD+ Academy training sessions by providing detailed information on purpose of the training, draft agenda, materials needed to run the various sessions, facilitation techniques, group exercises, etc. The document contains detailed advice and instructions on how to present each of the twelve REDD+ Academy topics.

This guidance document serves as an entry-point to understanding the 2030 Agenda. The primer explains what the agenda is about, provides a brief description of the historical process that led to its adoption, and explains the core principles underlying the agenda, its 5 dimensions, the sustainable development goals as well as their interlinkages. 

The Coastal Hazard Wheel is a universal coastal adaptation support system to address all coastal challenges simultaneously. It can be used for three main purposes: 1) Multi-hazard-assessments at local, regional and national level, 2) Identification of hazard management options for a specific coastline, and 3) As a standardized coastal language to communicate coastal information.

En el marco de la implementación de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible, es importante resaltar que los modelos y herramientas que pueden generar impactos positivos simultáneos en materia de reducción de pobreza, protección social y sostenibilidad ambiental, necesitan de una mayor visibilidad para que sean escaladas como opciones de política.

This analytical document focuses on developing countries, as targeted interventions in the agriculture sectors have the potential to deliver adaptation and mitigation benefits, as well as economic, environmental and social cobenefits – often simultaneously. As the international community shifts its attention to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, all climate action will be guided by countries’ NDCs and relevant national policy frameworks. Countries will take the lead in taking transformative climate action in the agriculture sectors, but the international community must support developing countries in doing so.

This module focuese on climate change adaptation and mitigation, aiming to assist forest managers in assessing and responding to climate-change challenges and opportunities. It provides both basic and more detailed information on key issues to be considered in assessing climatechange vulnerability and risks and adaptation and mitigation options. The module provides links to important tools and to cases in which these tools have been applied in forestry to adapt to, and mitigate the impacts of, climate change. 

This activity report showcases a set of case studies that present the work of a wide range of financed and supported projects that make a case for further investment in marine protected areas to restore the health of oceanic and coastal ecosystems, strengthen resilience in the face of climate change, sustain fisheries and other economic activities, and improve the lives of the world’s poorest communities.

This activity report showcases a four-year programme supporting work in 11 African least developed countries within the Programme on Climate Information for Resilient Development in Africa (CIRDA). As such, it builds on the expertise of the CIRDA technical team, the products of several workshops, and initial consultations between CIRDA experts and public and private representatives of CIRDA-supported countries. The vision described here is closely related to the work plan and activities of the CIRDA programme.

This activity report presents 15 stories of community and indigenous initiatives working in coastal and marine ecosystems to deliver benefits across the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These stories show that indigenous peoples and local communities are some of the most effective stewards of the planet’s marine ecosystems. They also show that the actions taken by these local initiatives can have widespread impact, in many cases across their entire country and beyond. 

This technical document aims at raising the voices of the media for climate action, at the national and local levels, in order to address problems related to climate change and build more accountability on how available funds for mitigating and adapting on its impacts are directed. The publication provides 1) an introduction to media matters, 2) climate change issues, facts, and figures, 3) media toolkit, 4) directory of resources, and 5) glossary of terms.

This technical document allows existing adaptation analysis and decision frameworks and tools to be catalogued in manner that is clear and easy to use and does not prescribe or recommend methods or tools. The document attempts to reflect the current state of knowledge by collecting and summarizing three broad categories of frameworks, methods, and tools.
