To advance Climate Science Literacy across Asia and the Pacific, the United Nations in Asia-Pacific has developed a series of posters, social media graphics, and videos.

The following United Nations Agencies have jointly developed the climate science literacy materials: UNESCO, ILO, IOM, UNDP, UNDRR, UNEP, UN ESCAP, UNFCCC, UNICEF, and UNOSSC.

This document begins with the assumption that education is essential to prepare societies to address the climate crisis. UNESCO has been supporting countries to integrate the study of climate change into education through its focus on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). However, there is a need to understand the depth of inclusion of climate change education within national curriculum frameworks.

This document responds to this need, drawing from data and methodologies used in prior UNESCO research. In particular, this report builds on research conducted for Learn for our planet, which analyzed environment-related content within national curriculum frameworks and education sector plans for 46 countries. National Curriculum frameworks were available and analyzed for 39 of those countries. This document includes an analysis of national curriculum frameworks for an additional 61 countries (100 countries in total, representing 52 percent of UNESCO Member States).

To give teachers the support they need to effectively provide Education for sustainable development and Global citizenship education this report makes recommendations for lawmakers, policy-makers, educational planners, curriculum developers, teacher trainers, teachers, school leadership and personnel, communities and other actors.

This report sets out the compelling case for repurposing harmful agricultural producer support to reverse this situation, by optimizing the use of scarce public resources, strengthening economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and ultimately driving a food systems transformation that can support global sustainable development commitments.

This report is the first attempt to gather, in a standardized format, the existing data on the impacts of the main soil management practices on soil organic carbon (SOC) content in a wide array of environments, including the advantages, drawbacks, and constraints. 

The report builds awareness of the status of land and water resources, highlighting the risks, and informing on related opportunities and challenges, also underlining the essential contribution of appropriate policies, institutions and investments.

The State of Food and Agriculture 2021 presents country-level indicators of the resilience of agrifood systems. The indicators measure the robustness of primary production and food availability, as well as physical and economic access to food. 

The report provides an overview of impacts from weather, climate and water extremes globally from 1970 to 2019 based on disaster data from the Emergency Events Database (EM-DAT).

The guide offers planners an encyclopaedia of proven options to help cool cities. The guide’s 80 supporting case studies and examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the strategies outlined and can help cities find an approach best suited to their unique contexts.

The “Economics of Peatlands Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Management” policy report identifies that the leading causes of peatland mismanagement are undervaluation and underinvestment.

This report analyses the current state of knowledge regarding the role of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in climate change mitigation.

The report details the UN System’s environmental footprint and the efforts being made to reduce it.

Principles and Policy Guidance on Children’s Rights to a Safe, Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment in the ASEAN Region sets out fundamental principles for realizing children’s rights to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment and for putting the best interests of children at the center of initiatives by all segments of society in Southeast Asia.

The brief reviews the impacts of climate change on infrastructure and the impacts of infrastructure on society and the environment (in particular, biodiversity loss and pollution). It focuses on the scope and scale of projected infrastructure investment to 2050, including the questions over how this can be delivered in line with the environmental dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals and a move towards nature-based solutions. It also provides guidance on how businesses that build public or private infrastructure can increase their resilience and drive innovation in the future. Building on this brief’s analysis, a roadmap of priority actions that businesses should follow – and the public policy measure that can enable and incentivize them – can be recommended. This will help to operationalize the broader sustainable infrastructure principles and go a long way to transforming our world, as called for in the 2030 Agenda and GEO-6.

This report explores ways in which the financial sector is starting to play a catalytic role in financing businesses to transition towards delivering environmentally sustainable food, energy and waste systems.

Blockchain for sustainable energy and climate in the Global South: Use cases and opportunities, illustrates a road map to accelerate the clean energy, low-carbon transition, and climate change mitigation through blockchain technology, providing a framework for linking climate financing with climate accounting.

The report attempts to capture the complete amount and future need for G20 countries spending on nature-based solutions assets and activities.

The report compiles UNEP’s efforts and results throughout 2021.

The report serves as a non-technical entry point for actors keen to navigate the environment-trade policy conversation and promote sustainable trade. It maps the current state of play and identifies a range of possible pathways forward.
