This technical document aims to promote the preparations for REDD+ in Peru, by highlighting some of the potential benefits that can be achieved through REDD+ actions, in addition to the primary aim of climate change mitigation. It presents the results of spatial analyses that can assist decision-makers in planning for REDD+ in a way that generates multiple benefits, and explores the possible contributions that REDD+ can make to the achievement of other policy goals such as the Aichi Biodiversity Targets of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the objectives of Peru’s National Climate Change Strategy.

This technical document contains the political and institutional context of member countries of the Commission for Central African Forests. Relevant spatial data is introduced, as well as ways to analyse it for the joint implementation of these two international commitments. This contribution of spatial analysis is then explored in more detail for three main types of REDD+ actions relevant to the sub-region: REDD+ actions for the conservation of forests, REDD+ actions for sustainable forest management and REDD+ actions for reforestation and forest restoration.

This technical document examines steps in the REDD+ planning process that can support the delivery of multiple benefits in Uganda. The document also discusses the importance of identifying potential benefits and risks in designing REDD+ interventions and country approaches to safeguards. It also highlights the potential for synergies between REDD+, the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the National Biodiversity Action Plan. Using example maps for Uganda, the report illustrates how spatial analysis can support REDD+ planning.

This activity report synthesizes activities undertaken in support of capacity-building framework in developing countries.  The report also provides an overview of the information submitted by parties on capacity-building, as reported through national communications (NCs), biennial update reports (BURs), biennial reports and various other annual submissions. 

This manual report focuses on the Adaptation and Mitigation Initiatives in Agriculture (AMIA) that are designed for a rice cultivation sector. This sector is extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and commonly associated with food security. The report shows that introduction of Alternative Wetting and Drying in irrigated rice fields could achieve substantial emission reductions by 2020. 

This manual emphasizes the importance of integration, universality, climate change mitigation, governance and accountability, and financing. It also shows that linking the SDGs with climate change mitigation will help countries build energy-efficient, low-carbon infrastructure and achieve sustainable development. 

This policy document aims to help individuals interested in a green economy to acquire better understandings of relevant trade rules. The document also seeks to increase coordination and reduce tension between the international trade and environment agendas in order to open new pathways to achieve sustainable development. Climate change is one important topic adressed in the document.

This activity report is about the fourth and last session of the structured expert dialogue (SED) on the 2013-2015 review. This final report will serve as input to the work of the Joint Contact Group on the 2013-2015 review when it meets in June 2015, during the 42nd session of the Subsidiary Bodies.

This analytical report presents an investment strategy for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and analyses the specific investment case for prevention, control, elimination and eradication of 12 of the 17 NTDs. Climate change is expected to increase the spread of several vector-borne NTDs, notably dengue, by changes in temperature, rainfall, relative humidity and climate variability. The report suggests that the presence of NTDs will thereby signal an early warning system for climate-sensitive diseases.

This activity report reflects United Nation (UN)’s system-wide progress in implementing the UN’s Climate Neutral Strategy, which requires UN bodies to estimate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reduce their emissions and analyze the cost implications of purchasing carbon offsets as they move towards climate neutrality. The report includes data on the GHG emissions for 64 organizations in 2013 as well as a breakdown of emissions by source.

This activity report shows that eight multilateral development banks (MDBs) are on target to reach their goal of investing US$ 175 billion in sustainable transport over the decade from 2012-2022. The report emphasizes how the MDBs’ sustainable transport investments are supporting climate-resilient, low-carbon growth in developing countries.

This manual outlines the key concepts, elements and requirements of the international climate change measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) framework. This manual is particularly intended to support developing countries efficiently and effectively implement the MRV framework. The manual also contains sections on national MRV frameworks, domestic MRV of domestically-supported Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and MRV for REDD+ activities. 

This technical document aims to evaluate the sector composition of GHG emissions in Brazil, vulnerability to climate change and challenges in the institutional framework. The document also includes Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)’s strategies to enhance adaptability and resilience against climate change in Brazil.

This activity report contains key lessons learned from the Regional Expert Consultation by the UN-REDD Programme which was held in Bangkok, Thailand in March 2015. The topic of this event was on Safeguards and Safeguards Information Systems (SIS). Experts from six countries, i.e. Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Viet Nam, gathered to exchange experiences and lessons from their approaches to fulfil the requirements. 

This technical document aims to consolidate, interpret, refine and draw conclusions from the information gathered on climate change impacts, sensitivity and adaptive capacity of fish production systems by the six case studies. The case studies targets to 1) define vulnerability to climate change by understanding potential impacts on the system, the sensitivity the current adaptive capacity, 2) identify gaps in existing knowledge in assessing the vulnerability of the system, 3) identify potential strategies for reducing vulnerability to climate change, and 4) provide policy guidance in reducing system vulnerability.

This activity report is about an informal expert consultation on “Adaptation to Social, Environmental and Climate Change Impacts on Vector-Borne Diseases,” which was held on February 27-29, 2012. The overall objective of the consultation was to enable key regional stakeholders to assess and, through consensus, prioritize research needs regarding public health adaptation to social, environmental and climate change impacts on vector-borne diseases in Africa.

This manual aims to help individuals identify, build and access the minimum set of activity data needed for GHG estimation. Required data is largely drawn from country’s official national agricultural and forestry statistics and integrated with geo-spatial data obtained from recognized international sources. Users are provided with step-by-step guidance on how to use this minimum set to build a complete national GHG emission dataset for agriculture and land use.

This analytical report contains revisions to a number of investment figures published in the 2014 UNEP Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment Report. As outlined in the report, newly installed renewable energy capacity in 2014 helped the world produce 9.1% of its electricity compared to 8.5% in 2013. The report also highlights that there are several challenges remainaing, including climate change, policy uncertainty, difficulties in creating policy that keeps pace with technological change and structural issues in the electricity system.

This manual introduces the DREI (Derisking Renewable Energy Investment) framework that identifies the barriers and associated risks holding back private sector investment in renewable energy. The DREI assists policymakers to put in place packages of targeted public interventions to address these risks. Each public intervention acts in one of three ways: either reducing, transferring or compensating for risk. The overall aim of the DREI is to cost-effectively achieve a risk-return profile that catalyses private-sector investment at scale as well as to provide reliable and affordable renewable energy solutions in developing countries.

This activity report shows a part of United Nations Development Programme’s support to the Government of Tunisia in the development of a Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) for the Tunisian Solar Plan (TSP). The NAMA TSP Project will be implemented between 2015-2019. The Tunisian Solar Plan, originally formulated in 2012 and revised in 2015, is Tunisia’s official long-term plan for attracting renewable energy investment in the electricity sector. The TSP seeks to achieve a renewable energy penetration target of 30% of the electricity generation mix by 2030.
