This report looks into the opportunities and challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, also referred to as Industry 4.0, to accelerate the transition towards sustainable energy. Industry 4.0 could contribute to finding new ways of dealing with major global challenges, such as climate change, lack of clean energy access, economic stagnation and reducing the digital divide 

This guidance document focuses on the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA), as it triggers resilient low-carbon development in the dairy sector through the introduction of climate-smart agricultural practices and to bring the dairy production sector of Uganda onto a low carbon and more resilient path. The NAMA focuses on a set of interventions and measures related to policy development, technical assistance, and access to finance that will be integrated within sustainable commercial oriented investment activities that contribute to enhanced agriculture productivity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, improved food security, and increased incomes.

This activity report addresses the challenges of achieving environmental sustainability and turning the vision of decent work for all into a reality. It shows that not only are both challenges urgent, but they are also intimately linked and will have to be addressed together. This guidance document explains how smallholder livestock keepers, fisherfolks and pastoralists are among the most vulnerable to climate change. Moreover, 14.5% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions come from livestock supply chains. The main sources of emissions are: feed production and processing and methane from ruminants’ digestion. 

This policy brief identifies policy-makers’ need assistance in identifying risk management options in the agricultural sector that allow them to effectively respond to the climate risks they face, while maintaining and enhancing agricultural policy objectives. Climate-smart agricultural (CSA) approach was developed to provide this assistance and this brief highlights some of the key findings related to risk management from CSA case studies.

This guidance document showcases how the world’s smallest island nations are now using new climate prediction tools to boost their economies and enhance livelihoods in areas as diverse as renewable energy, agriculture and national economic planning. The case studies reflect on the fact that, despite their remoteness and limited resources, many Small Island Developing States are now leading the world in their application of climate prediction services to strengthen their economies and develop a brighter, more hopeful future for their communities.
