The Class

The class will discuss Loss and Damage (L&D), its historical underpinnings, and associated concepts like climate justice, financing, and human rights. With the establishment of the Fund for Loss and Damage, as well as the designation of the Philippines as the host of its Board, the class will also talk about challenges, limitations, and opportunities in the L&D discourse.

The Teacher

Joy Reyes is a climate justice lawyer. She is currently the Technical Advisor of the Klima Center of Manila Observatory, a Climate Justice Lawyer at the Legal Rights and Natural Resources Center (Friends of the Earth Philippines), and a Policy Officer at the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics. She has co-written articles on climate governance, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) processes, particularly on Loss and Damage, and the intersections between environmental and human rights.She holds psychology, political science, and Juris Doctor degrees, and has just finished her MSc in Global Environment, Politics, and Society at the University of Edinburgh.
