  3. For Life, for the Future Conference: Biosphere Reserves and Climate Change

    The conference aims to demonstrate how more than 560 UNESCO biosphere reserves in over 100 countries, beyond conserving biodiversity, can contribute to effective climate change mitigation and adaptation. UNESCO biosphere reserves as model regions for sustainable development make available extensive experiences, for example on sustainable land use, green economies, conservation of ecosystem-services, as well as research and education.

  4. Second Forum on Climate Change in the Near East: Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security

    The Second Forum on Climate Change in the Near East Region is dedicated to the theme “climate change, agriculture and food security” and has the objective of enhancing Member Countries’ capacities to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and variability on agriculture and food security. The Forum is intended to take stock of the countries’ knowledge and gaps, to provide an opportunity for exchange of experiences and to identify specific needs for support and regional cooperation. The event is expected to come up with practical recommendations for follow-up actions to address the identified gaps, including national and regional project profiles, as well as a declaration delineating commitment and a roadmap for implementation of these recommendations.

  5. CIF Partnership Forum 2011

  6. Integrated Regional Workshop on Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (Africa and Arab States)

    This workshop is one of three integrated regional workshops for UN country teams (UNCTs) on mainstreaming environment sustainability, climate change and disaster risk reduction in UN country programming. With the aim of providing support to the 2011 UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) roll-out countries, the workshops take place in: Nairobi (June 20-24), Panamá (July 11-15), and Bangkok (July 25-29). The workshops are organized by the UNDG Task Team on Environmental Sustainability, Climate Change and Rio+20, in cooperation with the UN System Staff College (UNSSC), and the Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI). Support is provided by UNITAR (through UN CC:Learn), UNDP (through BDP and BCPR), UNEP, and ISDR.

    This side event highlights that carbon projects can generate important co-benefits that go beyond emission reductions and that benefit communities directly or indirectly (e.g. village electrification, recovery of native species, increased employment, and preservation of biodiversity). In this event, project developers, experts and the public and private sector buyers explore ways and options to make co-benefits count when developing a carbon project.
