  1. E-learning Course on Investment Planning Towards Low Carbon, Climate Resilient Development

    This e-learning course compiles knowledge and lessons learned during the design phase of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) investment plans and strategic programs. It aims to teach policymakers, planners and climate change practitioners how to design and finance strategic plans and programs for low carbon and climate resilient development that go beyond a project-by-project approach. Course structure is flexible and applicable to various levels of planning (e.g. national, sectoral, regional or municipal). In more concrete terms, the course aims to provide detailed know-how on various subjects such as preparing an overall investment strategy to meet climate change objectives or identifying envelopes of investments to meet those objectives, focusing on sectoral issues (energy, transport, forestry and land-use change).

  2. E-learning Course on Tapping Carbon Market for Energy Efficiency Projects in Public Buildings

    This course is one component of the program “Climate Friendly Energy Efficiency Policies across South East Europe,” which is a capacity building program focusing on energy efficiency in South East Europe. It provides a brief overview of carbon finance concepts and methodologies for energy efficiency programs/projects in buildings, as well as discusses the challenges of implementing Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in buildings and the role of designated national authorities (DNAs) in promoting carbon finance for public buildings. In particular, it equips different stakeholders with technical and program management skills, tools and knowledge necessary to simulate greenhouse gas emissions estimates in public buildings. The course consists of several lessons, presenting key concepts and providing opportunities to apply and discuss them. Quizzes, research exercises and case studies help to broaden participants’ understanding of the topics in a proactive way.

  3. E-learning Course on Saving Energy Through Energy Savings Performance Contracts

    This course consists of seven modules presenting key concepts regarding energy savings performance contracts (ESPC) and providing opportunities to apply and discuss them. All modules use multimedia presentations and offer selected readings. Quizzes, research exercises and case studies help to broaden participants’ understanding of the topics in a proactive way. By the end of the course, participants will be able to: identify ESPC opportunities in the public sector in their country; define the overall procurement process for ESPCs in a public agency; document case studies on specific country experiences using the ESPC approach; identify how to address the key procurement issues related to the ESPC approach; and develop a “roadmap” for employing the ESPC approach and selecting energy service providers to implement energy efficiency projects in the public sector.

The Strategy, developed through a multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral process at the country level as part of a UN CC:Learn Project on Strengthening Human Resources and Skills to Address Climate Change in 2011-2013, is launched by the Vice-President of the Dominican Republic at the National Palace in Santo Domingo.

  5. E-learning Course on Carbon Monitoring in CDM Afforestation/Reforestation Projects

    Module 2: Monitoring Forest Carbon Stocks (how to measure various forest carbon pools)

  6. Technical Workshop on Water and Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies under the Nairobi Work Programme on Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change

    This technical workshop discusses water, climate change impacts and adaptation strategies. It includes indigenous and traditional knowledge and practices for adaptation and gender-sensitive tools and approaches as cross-cutting issues. Furthermore, the workshop takes into account the technical paper on water and climate change impacts and adaptation strategies (FCCC/TP/2011/5).

  7. Third Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects in Asia and the Pacific

    This workshop aims to promote and support Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project activities in countries currently hosting fewer than 10 registered projects, in line with the decisions of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol on improving the regional and sub-regional distribution of CDM projects. The workshop is a platform for participants to cross-share best practices and key lessons from their experiences to date, enhance their knowledge on the latest CDM modalities, and discuss technical, financial, and policy issues specific to their projects with the resource persons. In addition to plenary and breakout sessions, one-on-one project consultations with interested project developers will be offered. The workshop is the third of a series targeting participation from countries with less than 10 registered CDM projects in Asia and the Pacific with focus on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

  8. Blended Course on Green Jobs: Linking the Environment, Climate Change and the World of Work

    This course tackles challenges and opportunities in the promotion of green jobs, by providing governments and social partners with the needed knowledge and tools to assess potentialities, device appropriate policies, investments and technology options, implement strategies, monitor and evaluate progress in the transition to a green economy. Special attention is given to the assessment of green jobs potential in developing countries and emerging economies and the analysis of their skills needs, through sectoral, cross-sector and country-based analysis. The course also emphasizes the potential of green jobs to advance gender equality and to enhance inclusion of vulnerable groups in the labour market, such as youth. In addition to the residence phase in Turin, the training includes two distance phases from 2 – 13 July (online pre-course support) and from 23 – 27 July (online post-course follow up).

  11. Workshop on NAMAs: National Mitigation Planning and Implementation in Agriculture

    This workshop aims to support advancing understanding and practice on: decision making on national mitigation priorities; what role Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) can play and establishing NAMAs as a policy instrument; the kind of support is needed in terms of investments and finance, policy, and Measuring Reporting and Verification (MRV). Proposed outputs include: a publication on lessons learned from NAMA implementation and commonalities and contrasts of NAMA experiences; the elaboration of examples of NAMAs and related MRV/infrastructure/ institutional mechanisms to share; minimum requirements for effective implementation of NAMAs – institutions and capacities; decision trees/templates showing how countries can establish priorities and advance implementation; enhanced knowledge on associated tools and resources for NAMA decision making and implementation; identification of research and capacity development needs for effective planning around agriculture; and ways forward for effective NAMA planning. It stresses that there is increasing evidence that well designed climate mitigation strategies can bring large, beneficial effects on a range of health outcomes. The webinar includes presentations and interactive discussion with leading international figures in the field, on the evidence, opportunities and constraints in achieving low-carbon, health promoting policies. It lasts 90 minutes with opportunities to ask questions to the panel.

    This e-learning course aims to provide the skills and knowledge needed for participation in multilateral negotiations, in particular in the context of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In particular, it aims to enable those working in relation to climate finance, with respect to diplomatic engagement, public and/or private sector activities, to work efficiently towards finding agreement on pertinent policy making challenges. It shall enable participants to enhance their understanding of the key objectives and instruments of international climate finance, the multilateral policy framework and key negotiation issues crucial to reaching a post-2012 agreement, particularly with repspect to the forthcoming negotiations in Qatar later this year (UNFCCC COP18).
